PanTran Celebrates Transit Month With Donation Drives

October is Transit Month, and PanTran is proud to announce that it will participate by helping give back to our Panhandle community.

Each week in October, PanTran passengers will be able to get free rides by bringing designated items with them on the buses. On October 8-13, Drivers will be collecting canned foods for donation to CCAP/Loaves and Fishes. Passengers who bring in a can of food to donate will be able to ride for free.

During the week of October 15-20, Passengers who bring in cell phones and eyeglasses for donation will be able to ride for free. Eyeglasses and cell phones will be donated to the Lions Club.

October 22-27, Passengers will be able to ride for free by donating cans or bags of pet food for bonation to the Berkeley County Humane Society.
All donated items should be brought on the bus and given to the driver in lieu of payment.

“This is our way of giving back to the community,” says Acting Director Kathy Mason. “We hope that riders new and old will come out both to support PanTran and to support their friends and neighbors in need in the Panhandle.”

New Schedules are here!

It’s been a long, bumpy wait, but our new, re-designed schedules are finally done. Schedules will start tolling out this afternoon and this weekend, with the bulk of our schedules being available some time next week.

The new printed schedules reflect the October 1 schedule changes and new stops. We designed this schedule with a handy accordion-style fold-out and, in order to make the whole thing easier to read, we alternated colors on each of the rows.

You can download a copy of the schedule, but it can be a little hard to print. Our trip planner on our home page will also be updated on October 1 to reflect the new changes.

We would like to thank Progressive Printing for the wonderful work they put in in designing and printing the schedules. We really love the new look and we think that the changes we have made will make the schedule much easier for our passengers to read. We hope that you guys will love them as much as we do!

PanTran shuttling Shepherd University football fans for home games

PanTran played a role in Shepherd University’s 34-7 victory over American International on Saturday, September 8, but not on the field. PanTran wan on hand to provide transportation to Rams fans before and after the game.

With the continued construction of the underpass between East and West Campus, PanTran partnered with Shepherd University to shuttle fans from parking lots on the West Campus to Ram Stadium. This is the first year that PanTran has provided shuttle service for football games, although PanTran has been providing regular shuttle service for Shepherd University students for over a decade.

PanTran shuttled 254 fans from the west side of campus to the stadium and back. Shepherd University had requested that PanTran provide shuttle service for four more home games during the season, September 29 against Concord, October 6 against West Virginia Wesleyan, November 3 against Glenville, and November 10 against Fairmont.

Thunder Over the Blue Ridge Shuttle Service

PanTran buses will be full of eager passengers September 15-16 as they provide shuttle services for the Thunder Over the Blue Ridge Open House and Air Show 2012.

PanTran will provide transportation from the handicapped parking area at the Sino Building on Novak Drive to the airfield on September 15th and 16th from 8:30 a.m. until the festivities end.  The shuttle service will be free to passengers.

“We’re excited to have the chance to invite some new faces onto our buses,” said PanTran Operations Manager Kathy Mason. “We view this as an opportunity to show off our buses to people who may have never had a chance to ride on them.”

This is PanTran’s third year providing shuttle service for the Thunder Over the Blue Ridge.

PanTran Announces Changes to Bus Service

I know many of you probably read the announcement in the Martinsburg Journal about changes to PanTran’s bus routes. While we haven’t yet finalized our schedule, we do have a few changes we can tell you about now. All of the following changes will go into effect on October 1.

  • Weekday bus service for the Red North and South Martinsburg  and Blue Berkeley County/VA lines will end at 7:30 p.m.
  • Weekday bus service on the Orange Charles Town/Jefferson County line will remain as it is currently scheduled. We mistakenly announced that it would end early in our announcement to the newspaper, but this was based on an older version of our new plan.
  • Weekend service will be reduced to one bus that will cover North and South Martinsburg (the Yellow Line) and Berkeley County along Rt. 9 to the VA Medical Center. This will be the only bus running on the weekends.
  • Shepherd University routes will remain the same.

If you have any questions you can leave a message in the comments, or email info@pantran.com for help.

At PanTran we are focused on trying to make your trip as enjoyable as possible. We love to see these numbers rising, and we want to know what we can do to make your ride that much better. Drop us a line in the comments, and lets try to make this year another record year for PanTran!

Welcome to the new PanTran Website

It’s been a few months in the making, but we finally have our new website up and running. We want to say hello to any new riders or curious Panhandle residents who have dropped by to take a look. We are passionate about providing great service to our riders, so we shifted the design to meet your needs.

You will notice a form on the front page with the Google logo. We are  very excited about joining the Google Transit Project. Now, our riders will be able to plan trips on PanTran buses using the power of Google Maps. This feature may have a few bugs that need to be worked out, so if you come across anything that doesn’t seem right, drop us an email and we will fix the problem as soon as we can.

We have tried our best to make the site easy to navigate. This blog will be rthe nerve center of our site, the place you will go to get to most up-to-date news and information about PanTran and its services. If you have any issues you would like us to address, please let us know.

You will also notice a box containing service alerts on the front page. If you want to know if the bus is on time, this spot will tell you. Keep in mind, though, that all of this info is compiled by our office staff, and it can be easy to miss when we are busy, but in the future, the PanTran website will be The Place to find out about bus delays.

We hope you enjoy the site. Feedback is appreciated, so either leave a comment below or drop us an email at info@pantran.com. Cheers, and happy riding!
